About James
James Mathey, PA-C, is a Physician Assistant at PeaceHealth Heart and Vascular Cardiology in Vancouver, WA. He began his career in 1993, in Loma Linda, California as a Registered Nurse at Loma Linda University working in Critical Care as well Cardiothoracic ICU. He also worked at the Jerry L Pettis VA Memorial Medical Center as a heart failure research coordinator and Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) instructor until 2004 when he earned his Master of Science degree as a Physician Assistant from Loma Linda University School of Allied Health.

James then worked for 10 years in critical care, pulmonology and cardiology for Beaver Medical Group in Banning, CA while teaching at the PA school as affiliate professor of PA studies, before relocating to Washington state. He now specializes in Electrophysiology which is as subspecialty or cardiology dealing with heart arrhythmias, pacemakers and defibrillators devices. Although his background experience is in intensive care and general cardiology, electrophysiology has been his lifelong passion.
“I believe that with every interaction, providers should be encouraging patients to not only thoroughly understand their medical care and the therapies they are receiving, but the preventive measures and lifestyle modifications that are necessary for maintaining life-long good health,” shares James.
James is married to a pediatric physical therapist and on his free time he enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters, playing and teaching guitar, serving his church community, performing and arranging music, and playing basketball and board games.
